LinkedIn is hot. LinkedIn is THE place to be for job search and networking and has added a ton of new features that will help elevate your profile.
1) Update your profile regularly, adding new content about your job, courses you have completed or volunteer work you have done. A stagnant profile won’t get noticed as often as one that is routinely updated.
2) Change your profile picture. How long have you had the same one? I had mine forever and was so happy to change it up to reflect where I am now. Don’t be afraid to use a photo with some personality and pizzazz and don’t forget to add a background photo as well to help your profile really pop!
3) Use the “Open to Work” badge on your profile if you are looking for a new job. This feature was added in June and has helped raise the profile of countless job seekers on the site.
4) Set Alerts. One of the best ways to get your resume looked at by a recruiter is to apply EARLY. By setting alerts on LinkedIn for the types of jobs you want, you will get emails as soon as these jobs become available and can apply ASAP to give you the best shot at an interview.
5) Check out the Career Explorer tool. This new tool aggregates data and metrics from LinkedIn to help you figure out how the skills you have match up to jobs. This is a great way to assess a potential career changes and pivots which searching for a job.
