Job Searching During Covid? This is what you need to know.
I have many clients who were in job search mode in January and February pre-Covid-19. Historically, mid-January through February are times when companies look to staff up after a quiet December. This was good news for two of my clients who DID receive job offers this month after multiple interviews in February and March.
Sadly, the job landscape has changed dramatically since then. Most of my clients are at a standstill right now with their interviews as companies struggle to stay afloat during this unprecedented time. This does NOT mean all hope is lost, however. There are industries and companies hiring now. Go on-line and check their websites to see what needs they are looking to fill and to see how you might position yourself to be a fit.
Where the jobs are now:
With non-essential brick and mortar stores and businesses closed, people are looking to get all of their business and shopping needs met on-line. The following companies are hiring now to meet this demand:
Other industries to look into include video game companies, and anything in the technology arena that makes work from home easier, i.e. Zoom.
Obviously healthcare workers are in huge demand right now and healthcare providers are staffing up not just with medical professionals, but in all areas so that is another industry to try (i.e. pivot to use your data analytics, accounting, marketing, within a healthcare corporation).
Most of the job search aggregators have special sections dedicated to job search during Covid-19 and those are good places to search. Check out Glassdoor, The Muse and Indeed for up-to-date job postings.
Finally, understand that the hiring process will take longer now. All of the HR personnel and managers who need to interview you are working from home too and their first priority is to their current employees. Hang in there and don’t be afraid to check in with your network and contacts during this time to see how they are faring and to say hello.
Stay well and healthy!
